Ross River Dam Cruises
Sunday afternoon cruise
On the Sunday afternoon cruise we make our way right across the lake and up to the very start of Ross River.
This is a section of the river very few people have ever seen.
We also cruise to the end of Round Mountain Creek.
On the return cruise we take a small land excursion to stand on top of a hill and view the open savannah with its wetland areas.
We then travel to the middle of the lake to see different landmarks and re-establish your bearings.
Most of the lake covers the old cattle station of Laudham Park. This name was given to the area by James Kelso who took up the initial 1200 acre block in 1878.
Hear how the cattle station grew in the next 100 years to 178 square miles and then see where the homestead stood and where the cattle yards and milking shed were located.
See and stand on the old Cobb & Co coach road.
The coach ran to the prosperous Goldfields of Ravenswood and Charters Towers from Townsville.
Hear the teamsters’ stories of being months away from home, see where two historic hotels stood and discover why they were there.
