Magnetic Island is just 8km North-East of Townsville. It’s an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday.
The Island is World Heritage listed and perfect for all sorts of water activities, with 22 beaches and sparkling blue waters.
National Park walking tracks wind their way through the lush bush, and cover some 24 kilometres overland.

Magnetic Island Geography
More than half of Magnetic Island is National Park. Mt.Cook is in the centre rising to 497 metres. The Island has a variety of vegetation from tall Hoop pines to eucalypt forest and patches of rainforest.
The rocky granite headlands meet the sea and are often fringed by secluded beaches. Some are only reached on foot or by boat.
The combination of this geography and the National Park status means there are many kilometres of walking track with spectacular lookouts.
Naturally, the National Park is a haven for wildlife and birds.
How to get here.
It takes 25 minutes by passenger ferry and 45 minutes by car ferry to reach Magnetic Island.
The Island is very well serviced by two ferry companies, Sunferries (passengers only) and the Magnetic Island Car and Passenger Ferry.
On the island you can explore using the local bus service, hire vehicles, tours or on foot.
